the ones they were recommending at the pet store where like mesh cages with a solid bottom. is this okay?

I found these joeys in the bottom of the cage 5 months ago, the mother dead. I have tryed to take the best care possible of them, but i feel the male is still to small, he only weighs and ounce, while his sister is 2 1/2 ounces. Any help would be appreciated.
