Do some reasearch on sugar gliders. I’ve got 8 gliders. They are amazing animals. Each has their own personality, likes and dislikes. They make great pets for the Right person. Not a pet for a child, though.
You can buy Sugar Gliders through USDA approved breeders. Do a Google search for a breeder in your state. Don’t buy one from a pet store or from a flea-market type event. We are trying to close down “Mill-breeders” that sell sick or gliders that are too young to be taken from their parents. They need the parents until they are at least 8 to 10 weeks old. They take a lot of work and committment and the price is usually $150 to $200 for one and you need to buy at least two at a time.
If they bit or attacked you? Yes.
We have some at our college which glided from person to person. Landed on my friends face, and she tried to gently pry them off -though it did draw blood with the claws. However, if you stop them stressing it lessens the chance of them hurting you.
I have had blood drawn from gliders at the rescue I work at many times and I have even had stitches on 4 occasions from one particularly aggressive glider.
Very hard and unlikely for them to draw blood biting you – it pinches but their teeth are wrong for piercing skin. And they’ll only really bite if they’re scared and not bonded. The landing issue is real if you don’t keep their claws trimmed (via special surface in exercise wheel is good). They can get you accidentally. Ours almost never jump to a face, they’ll take the best available landing place instead.
@ThomasAlexHD oh that is such bs! i had a female that would make me bleed! they are almost always nice, but just like people you run into a mean one every now and than!
