My female sugal glider hates males. She will let any female pick her up and play with her. If a male tried she bites him. I had mine for about a month before I started letting it out of it’s cage. I’ve had it for so long now that all I do is open the cage and they go and play and come back when they are done. They are supposed to be nocturnal. i don’t hear a peep out of them in the day time.

Okay, first off I’ll address the bonding issue. Sugar gliders *can* bond deeply enough to their humans that when frightened, they’ll seek you out for protection, or come back to you after exploring. BUT, not all gliders are alike and no bond is definite. Some gliders can bond within weeks, some never. Even a bonded glider may get frightened, lost or curious enough to leave your side and not come back. I never let my gliders out in the house – it’s just too difficult to “glider proof” everything. No standing water, no small holes, no heaters or fans on, minimal cords and all outlets covered… the list goes on. I use a tent for playtime with my gliders, it’s safe and is a great bonding tool. It can also help your glider bond better with your hubby

No for his sleeping habits – how old is he? Sometimes a new glider, especially younger ones, can have a displaced sleeping habit. Normally this will fix itself since it’s in his nature to sleep when it’s bright, play when it’s dark. My suggies are late risers and don’t get up till 11 or so, some get up as early as 7-8. Just depends, kinda like people. Some are morning people, some (most!) aren’t.
A proven diet, toys, and playtime are the best things you can do for sugar glider, and it sounds like you are well on your way to being a great slave!
