how long does it take until sugar glider babies start to eat solid food? like fruits, veggies, protein?

I have two little girl sugar babies who are currently drinking milk from the mom. Just wondering how long it will be until they start eating other food? Also does anyone have any advice on how to introduce the food to them when its the right time or what to start them with when theyre the appropriate age let me know :) Just want to make sure and see what yall have to say I always love to hear about what other ppl have experianced in the past….

oh yea! And also how many weeks old should they be once its safe to take them out and hold them…any advice about bonding with the little ones? I just dont want to do anything too soon…thanks!
thanks but that first answer was really kinda worthless……. I know I could talk to the vet, I just wanted to ask on here first, I like to hear about other peoples experiances who own sugar gliders because acutal owners usually understand more and give really good advice and stories.

best answer will go to someone who actually has an answer other then i dont know….lol

  2. Exactly how old are they? To answer your first question, they’ll usually start to eat solid food at about 3 1/2 months old, but they still might stick their head in and nurse off the mother. After about 130 days, it will be fully independent from its mother and completely on solid foods.

To answer your second question, they NEED to stay attached to the mother’s teats for the first 40 days. For the next 30 days, they will stay in the mother’s pouch, but not continuously attached to the mother’s teats. Shortly after, they will begin to come out of the pouch and start eating some solid foods. Do not take them out of the pouch, they will come out on their own when the time is right. I also read that you can start to handle them 10 days after they come out of the mother’s pouch.

As for bonding – The easiest way to bond with a baby sugar glider is: Wear two shirts (one shirt under another) both tucked in to your pants. Put the baby sugar glider between the two shirts and go about your usual business. In the beginning, the sessions should be very brief – not more than 5 minutes. Repeat several times a day, gradually increasing to an hour over a two-week period. After this, the sugar glider should be bonded to you and you should be able to carry it around in your shirt pocket or a pouch at the front of your body.

Sprite’s answer is absolutely dead on! Don’t think I could have worded it better myself.

I had twin boys, they’re now about 5 months oop and just neutered a few weeks ago. I started handling them when I noticed they were detatched from mom, but not for more than a minute or so every day. After a week or so I upped the time to a few minutes. By the time their eyes were open I was carrying them around in my bra for an hour while mom and dad played. I just put a sports bra on outside a regular bra, put a fleece square in, and viola! A human bonding pouch. It’s great because the babies will be snug against you and can hear your heartbeat. My adults are very sweet, but my twin boys are just the best!

As for introducing food to them, you really wont need to worry about that. When they start fluffing up and have their eyes open, they’ll start eating a little bit of whatever you put out for mom and dad. Just make sure you always put out extra, and by the time they are 6 weeks old make sure there is enough food in the cage for all of them as if they are all eating an entire portion.

HTH, and congrats on the fur-kids!

Edit: Here are some photos of my boys:
