How do you become a USDA certified breeder for sugar gliders?

I just noticed that my sugar glider may be pregnate soon. From what I understand you can’t even give the babies away let alone sell them unless you’re a certified breeder. Is this true? And if so how do I become one?

I’m not trying to start a comercial operation just want to know if I’ll be able to find a new home for the babies without being arrested! Of course I understand you can’t give them away right when they come out of the pouch, you have to wait afew weeks but I just wanted to know for future referance. Thanks!

Hi there yet again! Here’s the info on how to obtain the USDA licence in order to sell or give away the gliders: http://gerbilized.tripod.com/id49.html & http://www.petsugargliders.com/sgusda.php

  2. You can have up to 3 Females before you have to be licensed! But you can get a hold of:
    USDA, APHIS, ANIMAL CARE
    920 MAIN CAMPUS DRIVE
    SUITE 200
    RALEIGH, NC 27606
You can find it on the Internet also!
It would not hurt to call them, because when its time to get rid of the babies & someone trys to report you, they will already know about you!
