    Hi Caleb…sugar glider housing should be at minimum of 3 feet high by 2 feet wide and deep (if this what you are asking).

    In order to bond with the glider consider using a bonding pouch which can be purchased inexpensively online or you could simply sew your own pocket like pouch and wear this pouch on you when you do things around the house so the glider becomes comfortable with your scent to help with the bonding process. After some time, begin to offer treats by hand into the pouch for your glider to accept (e.g. grapes, mealworms, fruits, etc). Slowly over time coax your glider to come out of the pouch to come and accept the treat from your hand. He will soon discover that your hand brings him great rewards whenever he sees it.

    The noise you are hearing is known as “crabbing” (similar to a broken pencil sharpener). It is a warning to let those around that he’s irritated or that there could be trouble for those bothering them. This is an instinctual behaviour used towards larger predators to startle them away.

    Here’s more helpful information for glider care that I’ve answered for another new glider owner:

  2. I’m not sure what your first question is. But i’ll guess and say it’s one of two things.
    1. If you have a good cage or not;
    2. If a sugar glider is right for your home?????

    Well, a sugar glider cage should be at least 36 inches tall, 24 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. The cage wires should be 1/2 inched spacing and it is best to have a pull out tray in the bottom. They should also have several sleeping pouches with peices of fleece to simulate nesting material and several toys for them to play with such as ping pong balls and barrel of monkeys.

    Sugar gliders can take a long time to bond to their owners. Some ways to bond are:
    -Place a T-shirt that you have worn for a day in their sleeping pouch so they get used to your scent.
    -Carry them around in a bonding pouch when they are sleeping.
    -Get inside a camping tent with them at night when you feed them so they are forced to associate with you and eventually they will see you and think “food”.
    -when you wake them up to get them out of the pouch, offer them a treat such as mealworms, applesauce, yogurt, or ensure.
    -You have to spend all the time you can while you are home in the afternoon

    *They “crab” when you get them out of the pouch because they are being woken up by a big scarry looking hand and it seems like your hand is coming into their nest and trying to attack them.

    I REALLY hope you have two gliders because if you have just one, it will get depressed and may stop eating, pull out its’ fur pace back and forth at the bottom of its’ cage, and will eventually die from being alone.

  3. 1. The cage must be fairly large, they like to climb and jump. A good cage for 2 would be about 6″ tall. I have a large birdcage so she can climb around. It is reccommended that they be kept in pairs (male with male, female with female)

    2. The only way they will get used to handling is to handle them every day. Get a pouch with a zipper you can sling around your neck (I have a hommade one with a mesh screen to keep her into the action). You can also rip up an old t-shirt you have worn (no perfume or deoderant) and place pieces in the bad so they get used to your scent. I put mine into a hamster ball to let her run, then hold her once all of the fight is run out of her. lol

    3. It is called crabbing and your glider is telling a potential predator to back off. I just roll mine out of the bag, like rolling a sleepig bag. she pops out the top a little miffed, but then i can handle her. be careful as they may bite at this point.
