The best place I’ve found is http://www.sugarglider.net. It’s a forum of new, old and prospective sugar glider owners. That’s where I got all of my info, and they are VERY helpful!
I have 4 sugar gliders. To put it into perspective, I quit my second job so I could spend enough time with them. They need time out of their cage in a safe environment (I use a tent I set up in my living room). I like to spend at least an hour a night – it’s okay to miss a night once in a while, but they really need the play time. Also, it’s recommended to carry them with you as much as possible in the daytime while they sleep in a bonding pouch – it helps keep the bond
If you feed them the right diet and clean their cage often, they don’t have much of a scent at all (although they can have a skunky musk when scared). The diet I feed requires Egg, baby food, yogurt, wheat germ, and vitamin suppliments to be blended and frozen. In addition, they get certain fruits and veggies and insects (mostly mealworms).
They are AWESOME pets, if you have the time and the patients. I’ve wanted them for years but waited because I was younger and knew I wouldn’t have time for them like they need. They also can live to be 15 years, so be prepared for that.
Lastly, if you do decide to get a glider, consider adopting from a rescue – many work with the gliders so they are well tamed and ready for a new “slave”
other than that I recommend a reputable breeder so that you get a healthy tame baby.
Good luck, and feel free to email me with questions!
