some people have told me sugar gliders need a mate to live, others have told me u just have to spend alot of time with them. i dont want mine to die and i need a straight up answer do they need a mate or not. (i have an 8 week old boy)
is spending a few hours a day with him okay or does he need more bonding time than that
Sugar gliders can live alone, and if they live alone, they will be very friendly to humans. However, they do much better if they have someone to bond with, whether it is a human or a glider. If you are at home a lot and spend a lot of time with your glider, he should be just fine. However, if he spends most of his time in a cage and doesn’t get a lot of interaction from you, perhaps you should consider getting him a friend. If you do, please neuter the male!! You don’t want babies.

sugar gliders are social creatures so two are better, same sex is okay. they are night creatures so if you have two they can socialize if your sleeping.

I live in Maine, and the pet stores where I’ve seen them here won’t sell them single. You have to buy a couple. I am guessing the reason is because they are happier that way. I don’t know a lot about them though, other that they are soooooo cute. I was thinking about buying a pair, but everyone says they smell so bad they talked me right out of it.
