i jmust recently rescued an adult sugar glider.. she is about 4 years old and has never been handled.. i have another little girl glider who was about 1 years old when i got her and have had no problems with her at all… but my new adu;t girl is very snotty and seems like she has had no human contact… never been bag trained or shirt trained… is there anything i can do… will she eventually calm down and bond with me… please someone help!
all you can do is handle her as much as you can tolerate. show her nothing but kindness and ignore when she bites, she’ll learn it does no good.

Go slow and bribe her with food.
From now on, all things good and yummy only come from your fingers. You want her to start associating you with her favorite things.
Give it lots of time. Don’t rush her. She needs to realize you are a friend.

I have no experience with sugar gliders but I have raised many ferrets! If they shied away from human contact I would take their cage to a quiet area, and then just sit and talk to them. Let them know you are not a threat! Talk quitley about ANYTHING, read them the phone book, at the end of your session give a treat. Soon you will be able to do this with her out of the cage! good luck

Take her to a vet if there’s anything wrong with her and let them take care of it. A sugar glider really shouldn’t be kept as a pet…It doesn’t really matter if you can take care of the animal, captivity really isn’t best for exotic species.

Hi Mike…consider using and wearing a bonding pouch to first get her acclimated to your scent and your voice before handling her with your hands. You don’t want to force the introduction too quickly rather gradually. While she’s in the pouch offer her some treats so she gets accustomed to see your hands when you deliver the treats. Doing this over time she may come around and begin to learn your hands are friendly and safe to touch and explore. Have patience as this is the best way to get gliders to learn to trust you.

How long ago did you get her? does she get along with your other little girl? I had a sugar glider that was practically unmanageable, but as soon as I introduced her to to my mellow little boy, she slowly started coming around. She still isn’t totally tame, but she is taking my bonding methods much better now that she has my boy to show her I’m not so bad.
Here is a link to a fantastic bonding method, which I’m using – the trick is to go SLOW and if she’s not ready to progress, dont push her as this can set you back.

Also, I frequent a web forum http://www.sugarglider.net – it is very helpful to go to when you have questions regarding your glider babies because there are so many people on at all times that are knowledgeable and willing to help.
Good luck with your girls!
